Meet Our Officers

Ashley Nelson, DVM

President

Dr. Ashley Nelson is a native of Augusta County, VA. She received her B.S. in animal and poultry sciences from Virginia Tech in 2011 and her DVM from the VMCVM in 2015. In January of 2020 she returned home and began working at Westwood Animal Hospital. Her practice interests include all aspects of bovine herd health and reproduction. She also has a special interest in small ruminant medicine. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Nelson enjoys hiking, kayaking, is an avid Hokie football fan and enjoys spending time with her husband, Isaac and their three dogs.

Kiel Hausler, DVM

Vice President

Dr. Kiel Hausler attended the University of Wisconsin River Falls before being accepted into the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine where he completed his DVM in 2013. Originally from Wisconsin, Dr. Hausler was raised in Stevens Point, Wisconsin on a beef and bison farm where he grew up showing Simmental cattle. He made the move to the gentler climate of Virginia in 2015. He enjoys exploring the great outdoors with his wife, Alex, and daughter Adalind. He is also passionate about working with the local 4-H program and kids interested in raising and showing livestock.

Don Gardner, DVM

Secretary - Treasurer

Don Gardner has been a practicing veterinarian for 42 years. He owns Gardner Bovine Veterinary Service and Gardner Custom Heifers. â€‹He graduated from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1970. 

Amanda Weakley-Scott, DVM

Past President

Amanda Weakley-Scott is the co-owner of Virginia Herd Health Management Services, PC. She was raised on a small beef farm in Madison County, Va. where her love of agriculture began at a young age. She graduated from the Virginia–Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. She is married with one child.
