Congratulations to McCauley Vailes, the recipient of the VAFAP Outstanding Student Award in 2021.

McCauley Vailes grew up on a small farm in Augusta County, VA. Her family raises Boar goats and Southdown Babydoll sheep, along with an assortment of other animals. She received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Animal and Poultry Sciences from Virginia Tech. During veterinary school she was actively involved in the Food Animal Practitioners Club, Theriogenology Club, and the Bovine Palpation Team. McCauley truly enjoys interacting with producers and educating others about the food animal industry.
She is passionate about bovine reproduction and ruminant herd health management. The unpredictability and wide variety of cases are what makes food animal veterinary medicine exciting for her. After graduation from VMCVM, McCauley will be joining West River Veterinary Clinic in Hettinger, North Dakota.
